In recent developments, metro rail service providers across Indian cities have partnered with WhatsApp Business to bring transit solutions to the platform. A WhatsApp chatbot will allow users to book, buy, cancel, or recharge tickets. In addition, other information, such as train timings, journey routes, fare breakdowns, and more, will be available.

WhatsApp’s Business Messaging director for India, Ravi Garg, commented on this move stating, “India’s digital revolution is now making public transport safer, smarter and more convenient. We are proud that India’s world-class metro services in multiple cities are now integrated into WhatsApp to offer commuters convenience at their fingertips. We would be happy to support other cities and help digitise train transits on WhatsApp to add value to the lives of daily commuters across the country.”

Services available in supported cities

There are digitised metro rail services available in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. In order to accomplish this, WhatsApp has partnered with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Mumbai Metro, Pune Metro, and L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited.

Using end-to-end QR ticketing service, Namma Metro commuters in Bangalore can buy/cancel tickets, view fare details, view card information, and recharge cards in English or Kannada. You can trigger the chatbot by sending ‘Hi’ to ‘https://wa.me/+918105556677‘.

E-tickets can be purchased on WhatsApp by Mumbai Metro users. Automated Fare Collection gate verification is required for these tickets. Every detail of the journey is contained in these documents, including the fare and the date of issue. Getting started is as simple as messaging ‘Hi’ to ‘https://wa.me/+918105556677’.

Additionally, Pune Metro commuters can book e-tickets by messaging the chatbot number. The message should be sent to ‘https://wa.me/+918105556677’. Metro travellers in Hyderabad can ping the chatbot to receive an e-ticket booking URL valid for five minutes. They can access end-to-end digital payment-enabled ticketing using this URL. Using the address ‘https://wa.me/+918105556677’, users can ping ‘Hi’.
