New WhatsApp Features: Expiring Groups, Split View For Android Tablets, Mute Calls From Unknown Numbers

WhatsApp is bringing even more features in its future updates, many of which have been spotted on beta versions of WhatsApp on iOS and Android. It was recently caught testing features such as calling shortcuts, pinned messages in groups, camera mode switch, chat transfers from iOS to Android, and posting voice notes as status.

The new reports from WABetaInfo suggest WhatsApp is bringing three new major feature updates, and it has caught testing these features. Let’s talk about it.

Expiring Groups

On the iOS beta version 2.23.5.71 for iOS, WhatsApp is testing a new expiring groups feature. With this option, you can set an expiry date for new groups. Look at the screenshot:

As you can see, with the Expiring Groups option, you can set an expiry date for the groups. You can set a date for expiry for One Day, One Week, or even set a Custom Date for the expiry of the group. This is particularly useful in making a new WhatsApp group for special occasions you’d use only for a set period. 

Split View for Android Tablets

For the longest time, WhatsApp has been nearly unusable on Android tablets. That’s because the UI of WhatsApp on tablets were just a stretched version of its phone app. It did not provide any tablet-specific optimisation to make navigating through the app or just using it easier. It’s now changing; WhatsApp is currently testing a split view for WhatsApp on Android tablets. WABetaInfo has spotted this feature on the WhatsApp for Android beta version. Mute Calls From Unknown Numbers

On the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android, WABetaInfo spotted a new feature that can mute unknown callers on WhatsApp. It is annoying when unknown users call you on WhatsApp; this feature will be helpful to combat that.
