Highlights

  • Hotstar is rolling out the new Disney+ Hotstar X update
  • Changes the UI to match the global Disney+ app

Disney+ Hotstar has been in hot waters lately. It lost rights for IPL to JioCinema, didn’t renew rights for Formula 1, and lost rights to HBO shows. This means Disney+ Hotstar subscribers now have way less content to stream than last year. Losing HBO shows is a big blow, as subscribers won’t be able to stream shows such as The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, Euphoria, etc., now on Disney+ Hotstar.

Many attributed these changes to making Disney+ Hotstar a more Disney-focused platform, like Disney+ in the US market. This new change from Hotstar supports this argument, making it look more or less like Disney+ in the US.

A Reddit user posted the screenshot of the update he received in Disney+ Hotstar, which changed its UI and added some features.

The new version of Hotstar is dubbed Disney+ Hotstar X, and let us look at its features.

As you can see, the homepage has now transformed into a more modern design. The first row of portrait carousals shows the trending movies and TV shows. You can either click on Watch Now or Add to the watch list. Just below that, you can see the latest and trending list of movies and TV shows.

You also get a selector for switching to show only TV, Movies or Sports.

A bottom navigation bar houses the Home, Search, and My Space buttons.

Unfortunately, Disney+ Hotstar is yet to bring Profiles to the app in this update. Profiles are currently listed as coming soon in the new app.
