Highlights
  • This new e-scooter has some design similarities to the Hero Electric Optima CX series
  • Hero didn’t provide availability details for the new scooter
  • The e-scooter could potentially take on premium offerings from the likes of Ola, Ather, and others

We’ve witnessed the launch of multiple e-scooters in the first three months of the year. And the stream of new launches isn’t slowing down anytime soon, with manufacturer Hero Electric teasing the launch of its new e-scooter on social media.

The teaser is part of a 12-second video, wherein the company doesn’t reveal much about the e-scooter itself, aside from the fact that it could be powered by a 2W motor. There’s a silhouette of the scooter towards the end, giving us a decent idea of what to expect in terms of design.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t offered a launch date either, so the idea here is to generate some hype ahead of the unveiling sometime in the near future. As 91Mobiles rightly notes, upon closer inspection, the e-scooter shown in the teaser appears to be an upgraded model of the Hero Electric Optima CX.

While there are hints of artificial intelligence (AI) elements being embedded within the scooter in some form, it’s unclear what shape this would take. But based on the information on the motor, it’s clear that this new e-scooter will cater to the high-end segment. This means the new e-scooter by Hero Electric will take on the likes of the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida V1, among others.

As is always the case in India, pricing will be key for the success of Hero Electric’s new e-scooter. Fortunately, the company has adequate experience selling e-scooters in the country and will hope for this likely Optima successor to strike a chord with the masses. Historically, Hero Electric has targeted the low-cost, budget-friendly e-scooter segment, so it would be interesting to see if the manufacturer is ready to jump to premium electric scooters.
