Google Brings AI To Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet and Chat

Google has announced the upcoming AI features for its Workspace apps such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat, and Gmail. 

Google has shown an example of what this new AI tool can do for you in Gmail. Clicking on the “Help me write” button on Google Docs, and ask for it to give write a job posting for the title of regional sales rep”. It will write a draft on the floating window which you can insert into your file. You can also do a similar thing using the Help me write button. 

Here are some of the features Google has listed out that you’ll be able to do in Google Workspace:

• Draft, reply, summarizer, and prioritize emails in Gmail. 
• Write, rewrite, proofread, and brainstorm in Google Docs. 
• Add auto-generated images, audio, and video in Google Slides. 
• Auto-completion, formula generation, and contextual categorization in Google Sheets. 
• Make notes on Meet and generate new backgrounds for calls. 
• Enable workflows in Google Chat. 

Starts with Docs & Gmail 

Google will start by adding AI features to Google Docs and Gmail, although the company has yet to reveal when the public will access these AI features on Docs and Gmail. It will be available first in the US for a select few testers.

Google is Playing Catch Up!

Ever since ChatGPT shot to the limelight and Microsoft introduced New Bing, Google has been scrambling to launch similar AI features. The company even declared “code red” because of ChatGPT. 

Google has just announced these features, but it is yet to be available if they’ll be available first in the US market to a group of individuals called “trusted testers”. It is also how Google introduced the Google Bard AI chatbot, which is yet to be available publicly. 

Microsoft seemingly has a huge lead over Google in this aspect. With the launch of GPT-4, Microsoft announced that its Bing AI chat has been using GPT-4 all along and has many advanced features that ChatGPT didn’t have. Plus, it has started rolling similar Bing Chat and even has Bing AI tools in the stable version of Edge.
