  • Valve Announces the fourth addition to the Counter-Strike franchise.
  • Counter-Strike 2 will be an upgrade to CS: GO.
  • CS2 will launch this summer.

After much waiting, Valve has officially announced the sequel to the ultra-popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, called Counter-Strike 2.

Even though a sequel named like one, Counter-Strike 2 will act like an upgrade to existing CS: GO players.

The new Counter Strike game will run on Valve’s Source 2 engine. Valve says, “Counter-Strike 2 is the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike’s history, ensuring new features and updates for years to come.”

Valve has mentioned in the announcement that the new game’s full feature list will be revealed when it officially launches. But before that, select CS: GO players can experience CS2 as a Limited Test.

Interestingly, as it acts as an upgrade, you can bring your entire CS: GO inventory with you to CS2! CS2 will launch this summer, so it’s coming soon!

Counter-Strike 2: Features Revealed

Although Valve said it would only reveal the complete feature set at its official launch, it has given us a peek at some of the upcoming changes and features. Let us take a look:

Responsive Smokes

Smoke grenades are now dynamic, and they will interact with the environment and react to gunfire, lighting and explosions.

Moving Beyond Tick Rate

On CS2, Tick Rate no longer matters for moving, throwing or shooting. CS2 will have its heart based on sub-tick updates. This means that regardless of the tick rate, the moving and shooting will be more responsive, and the grenades will land the same way every time.

Levelling Up The World

CS2 will come with radical visual upgrades from CS: GO as expected. As a game launched back in 2012, the change will be night and day.

The maps will be overhauled and rebuilt from the ground up based on the Source 2 engine. The maps will use new lighting, improving the visuals and adding a more realistic approach.

The Source 2 tools will be available for community map makers as well.
