Ola, the popular electric scooter manufacturer, is reportedly testing a new feature for its scooter lineup, which might come as a surprise to many. According to recent reports, the company is testing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, which is currently the hottest thing in the 4-wheeler vehicle realm. The news was confirmed by Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal on Twitter, where he shared a video of an Ola test mule trundling around in Bengaluru city traffic, equipped with a camera at its front and a digital display, replacing its left ORVM housed inside a weather-proof case.

Ola Electric Scooter With ADAS

ADAS technology is currently only available in a handful of 2-wheeler vehicles, most of which are high-end motorcycles. Therefore, Ola’s move to incorporate this technology in its scooters could be a game-changer for the electric scooter market. The ADAS technology is expected to offer riders a safety net that will help them navigate traffic with minimal inputs.

The system is found to track objects in real-time, monitoring the test mule’s speed in relation to traffic, and can be an asset in traffic-ridden cities like Bengaluru. Ola is highly likely to use camera-based ADAS tech, similar to Honda’s Sensing suite found in the City sedan.

While the company has not yet disclosed the exact functionalities of the ADAS technology, the move is a clear indication that Ola is committed to offering its customers the latest technology and features. However, it is still unclear whether existing customers can retrofit this feature on their scooters.

In other news, Ola has also issued a voluntary recall of its front single-sided forks, replacing them with updated single-sided forks amidst reports of front suspension breakdowns. While it was earlier speculated that the company would replace them with double-sided forks, this does not seem to be the case.

Ola’s commitment to offering its customers the latest technology and features is evident in its efforts to incorporate ADAS technology in its scooters. This move is expected to be a game-changer for the electric scooter market, offering riders a safety net while navigating through traffic in congested cities.
