Highlights
  • The Vivo X Flip has made its way to the leaks for the past few months now
  • This clamshell will take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
  • There’s no launch date for the phone yet, but the increasing frequency of leaks suggests it’s not far away

The foldable smartphone segment has been supercharged with the arrival of Vivo’s offerings. While Samsung still controls a large portion of the global foldable market, Vivo is closing in quickly. The Chinese manufacturer’s next clamshell foldable, dubbed the X Flip, has already appeared numerous times in the rumour mill. A new leak is now offering our first look at the external design of the foldable, thanks to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station.

With the Vivo X Flip making its way to the Play Store recently, we know that its launch isn’t too far away. Further reaffirming this notion is the teaser image shared by the aforementioned source. As you can see from the image below, one of the key highlights of Vivo’s upcoming clamshell is the large outer display, a trend that Samsung is expected to catch on to with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 later this year.

A larger cover display unlocks multiple new avenues of functionality, especially while using the phone for selfies. Moreover, the larger screen also offers more notifications than usual, with enough space for a camera quick launch icon, as shown in the image above.

Diving into the specifics of the image, it shows Chinese actress Wang Ziwen holding the phone. This could be the best evidence yet of the smartphone’s imminent arrival, as Vivo is likely handing out the phone to celebrities in a bid to generate more hype around its launch. With the Vivo X Flip expected to be one of the few clamshell foldables in the market, the world’s eyes will certainly be glued to the smartphone’s unveiling.

Meanwhile, the Vivo X Flip shown in this image appears to resemble the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s Bora Purple colour variant, as Gadgets360 rightly points out. There’s not much else that we can decipher from the image itself, though we get a feeling this is only the start of a long list of leaks related to the Vivo X Flip.

Vivo X Flip rumoured specifications

The clamshell is likely to pack a 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED screen coupled with a 120Hz refresh rate. Past leaks have told us that the cover display could measure at least 682 pixels wide. On the processing front, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset could be crammed underneath, and not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as many would have hoped.

A 50-megapixel Sony IMX866 sensor is rumoured to act as the primary camera among the two rear sensors, paired with the 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 sensor (ultrawide). Rumours claim Vivo will offer a 4,400mAh battery underneath the X Flip, backed by 44W fast charging support. We’ve also learned that the clamshell will bear the model number V2256A.

It’s possible that the X Flip may be limited to China for the first few weeks of its release, with the global launch likely following shortly after. The PriceBaba team will keep you updated on the Vivo X Flip as more details become available.
