In India, the planned compact Electric vehicle from MG Motor will be known as the “Comet.” Also, this marks the debut of MG’s India-specific model, which is based on sister brand Wuling’s Air EV and is available in countries like Indonesia. MG claims that it is based on the renowned British aircraft that competed in the 1934 England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race. The Hector and Gloster SUVs from MG are also named after British planes from World War Two.

MG Comet EV: Exterior Design, Size

The three-door, four-seater Comet will be the smallest four-wheeler for sale in India, measuring just 2.9m long, making it unlike any hatchback we’ve ever had in India. The India-specific  Comet EV shares a similar design to the model offered in Indonesia. It has a long, stubby head, a wraparound strip under the windscreen with LED lighting parts that end in the wing mirrors, and a two-tone front fascia.

Its small size may give the impression that it will be promoted as an affordable car, but that is not possible the truth. We predict it will cost more than Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and be advertised as a high-end intra-city runabout.

Despite the fact that MG hasn’t yet released interior pictures, we expect the main talking point to be a dual-screen infotainment system composed of two 10.25-inch screens, similar to the XUV700 or perhaps some Mercedes models. More high-end features are expected, including wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-tone interiors with high-quality materials, linked car technology, and voice controls. A sunroof could even be installed.

Battery power for the Comet EV is expected to be provided by a 20–25 kWh battery. According to our insiders, the battery will be purchased locally from Tata AutoComp and will offer the Comet EV a driving range of up to 300 km. It will probably be iCAT-approved, exactly like MG’s other electric vehicle, the ZS EV. The Comet’s single front-axle motor is expected to generate about 50 kW of power (68hp). The Comet is expected to go on sale in the middle of 2023.
