Highlights
  • The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are expected to be unveiled in August
  • Samsung is seemingly testing the new update on the South Korean versions of the foldables
  • One UI 5.1.1 will eventually reach existing Galaxy phones, such as the Galaxy S23

It’s no secret that the next-gen Samsung foldables are on the horizon. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 have already leaked on multiple occasions. We’re now coming across additional confirmation of the phone’s imminent release, courtesy of SamMobile.

The publication reports that the refreshed Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold models will launch by August this year. Moreover, SamMobile found hints that the company is already testing One UI 5.1.1 on the upcoming foldables. These phones are supposedly the South Korean variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5, bearing the model numbers SM-F946N and SM-F731N for the Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5, respectively. The two phones also seem to be running on the firmware versions F731NKSU0AWD5 and F946NKSU0AWD5, with One UI 5.1.1 on board.

As SamMobile notes, the upcoming One UI 5.1.1 update should debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5 in August. Expectedly, both will be based on Android 13, with Samsung likely to offer an update to Android 14 coupled with a newer One UI trim, possibly later this year or in the early months of 2024. Phones like the Galaxy S3 series and a handful of mid-rangers are also eligible for the update, while some older Galaxy flagships may get the boot.

Features of One UI 5.1.1 are still a mystery

One UI 5.1 was launched with the Galaxy S23 in February, so it’s relatively new. With this in mind, there are a lot of unknowns about the upcoming release, One UI 5.1.1.

As is the norm each year, we expect Samsung to announce some foldable-specific features with the new software, while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Z Fold 4 should get them eventually. General improvements should be on board, however, including newer visuals and faster performance compared to the existing version.
