Sony Music South shared the official trailer of Viduthalai Part 1 on YouTube on March 8, 2023. So far, the trailer has garnered over 29 million views and 413K likes. Sony Music Entertainment India Pvt. Ltd. owns the movie’s music label. The film received critical acclaim, with the critics praising the performances, characterisation, plot, cinematography, background music, and technical aspects. It earned Rs. 28 crores worldwide on the fourth day of its theatrical release. It is based on Thunaivan by B. Jeyamohan. Later this year, Viduthalai Part 2 is expected to be released theatrically.

The authorities begin “Operation Ghosthunt” in response to a deadly train bombing to apprehend “Vaathiyar” Perumal (Vijay Sethupathi), the suspected head of the Makkal Padai (People’s Army), who are the claimed culprits. A sincere police officer named Kumaresan  (Soori) joins the force as a driver but soon questions the brutal tactics used by the police force, which negatively affects his romantic interest.
