  • Musk’s tweet reveals new CEO will start in six weeks

On Thursday, May 11, Elon Musk announced that he has hired a fresh CEO for Twitter. Although he did not reveal the name of the individual, media reports state that Linda Yaccarino, a senior executive at Comcast NBCUniversal, is currently in discussions for the role. In a tweet, Musk expressed his excitement about the new hire, stating that the CEO will begin in approximately six weeks.

After leading Twitter as its CEO since October 2022, Elon Musk has announced that he will be transitioning to the role of Chief Technology Officer within the next few weeks. In December of the same year, he humorously remarked that he would step down as CEO once he found “someone foolish enough to take the job.” It seems he has now found the right candidate and will be focusing on overseeing Twitter’s software and server teams. This move by Musk comes as part of his efforts to optimise Twitter’s technological capabilities and strengthen its position in the highly competitive social media landscape.

Musk Under Pressure

The move comes as Tesla’s shareholders have been pressuring Musk to focus more on the electric car company, which has seen its shares fall by 30% in the last year. Following the announcement of the new Twitter chief, Tesla’s stock jumped by about 2%. Insiders suggest that Twitter investors and bankers have also been keen for Musk to choose new leadership for the company.

Based on recent developments, it appears that Elon Musk’s efforts to cut costs at Twitter have been paying off, with the company’s finances showing signs of improvement. In fact, Musk himself has stated that Twitter may soon be able to generate positive cash flow. Furthermore, Musk has been actively working to introduce new features, such as encrypted messaging, which suggests a promising future for the social media platform.
