  • Prior to the iPhone unveiling, Apple is expected to launch its first-ever 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC next month
  • The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus could get Dynamic Island this year
  • Apple is likely to unwrap its new iPhones in September this year

Apple is expected to debut four new iPhones this year in the iPhone 15 lineup. The Pro and Pro Max versions of this year’s iPhone flagship, in particular, have garnered quite a bit of attention. This is due to the rumoured inclusion of a periscope camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. A new source has now provided some insight into what this new camera sensor could do to Apple’s arrangement and placement of the rear sensors.

According to URedditor on Twitter, in order to accommodate the periscope sensor, Apple will switch the places of the telephoto sensor and the ultra-wide angle camera. This means the periscope camera will be positioned between the LED flash and the LiDAR sensor on the high-end flagship.

This does seem plausible, given that this isn’t the first we’re hearing about Apple’s intentions to include a periscope camera. If the rumours hold up, the iPhone 15 Pro would utilise the same rear camera setup and arrangement as the iPhone 14 Pro, with the camera changes predominantly coming to the most expensive model in the lineup. This could also be due to space-related limitations on the smaller Pro model.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max rumoured specifications

We’ve already heard about the periscope camera with 6x optical zoom capabilities on a number of occasions, but there have been a few other features that have made it to the rumour mill over the past few months.

Customers could have a Deep Red version of the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max to choose from this year. Meanwhile, another rumour has suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will have the slimmest bezels ever on an iPhone. Display upgrades aren’t on the cards, however, with fans likely having to wait until next year for that to materialise.

Apple may also beef up the performance of the new Pro iPhones with the A17 Bionic chipset, potentially leveraging the A16 Bionic for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, which, not coincidentally, is the same chip that powers the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models.
