Chinese tech giant Huawei, recently unveiled its latest smartwatches, the Huawei Watch 4 and Huawei Watch 4 Pro, in China. These wearables, equipped with HarmonyOS 2, offer an array of impressive features to cater to fitness enthusiasts. Notably, the new watches stand out from competitors like Apple and Samsung, as they come with an innovative blood sugar assessment function, providing a convenient monitoring solution for individuals with diabetes.

Price and Availability

The Huawei Watch 4 carries a starting price of CNY 2,649 (approximately Rs. 31,000), while the Huawei Watch 4 Pro starts at CNY 3,349 (approximately Rs. 40,000). The standard model comes in Moon Black, Venus White, and Saturn Brown colour options, while the Pro version offers Azure Earth, Jupiter Brown, and Mars Titanium variants

Blood Sugar Assessment Feature

The Huawei Watch 4 series introduces a pioneering blood sugar risk assessment feature, making it the first smartwatch in the industry to support such advanced capabilities. Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer unit, demonstrated the feature in a video posted on Weibo. The smartwatch detects high blood sugar levels and displays a message alerting the wearer to the potential risks associated with excessive intake of high-sugar, high-oil, and high-fat diets.

Huawei is making this feature available to a select group of people who can take part in a collaborative research study run by Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and China Healthcare International Exchange Promotion Association in order to further increase the technology’s efficacy. Participants are required to wear the Huawei Watch for at least seven consecutive days, during which the wearable device will provide hyperglycemia alerts on their wrists. Moreover, the smartwatch will offer personalized advice based on the user’s calculated risk levels.

Competition from Apple and Samsung

While Huawei takes the lead in offering blood sugar assessment capabilities, competitors like Apple and Samsung have yet to incorporate this innovation into their wearables. Apple has been long rumoured to be developing a blood sugar monitoring tool for its Apple Watch. Huawei’s inclusion of this feature gives it a significant advantage in the market.

Impressive Specifications

Impressive features of the Huawei Watch 4 series include a 1.5-inch AMOLED LTPO display with a 466 × 466 resolution and 310 ppi pixel density. The Pro model features a sapphire glass-protected screen, while the standard Watch 4 comes with a stainless steel case. Both watches offer various health and fitness tracking features, such as heart rate monitoring, body temperature sensing, and ECG capabilities. With over 100 sports modes, 5ATM water resistance, and NFC for contactless payments, the Huawei Watch 4 series aims to deliver a comprehensive wearable experience.
