Highlights
  • Apple previously offered the vertical dual rear camera layout with the iPhone 12 series
  • This rumoured change could be coming to both the iPhone 16 and its larger Plus sibling
  • The iPhone 16 duo and their Pro/Pro Max siblings could break cover in September 2024

Information on the Apple iPhone 15 has been pouring in over the past several months. Generally, leaks about the year’s iPhone release usually pick up intensity in June. But today, we’re learning about a potential rear camera design change for next year’s entry-level iPhone 16 series.

As per @URedditor on Twitter, there will be a change in the arrangement of the rear cameras on entry-level iPhones. Per the source, Apple will return to the iPhone 12’s vertical camera layout rather than the diagonal arrangement, which was first seen on the iPhone 13 series, and carried forward to the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.

Unfortunately, prospective customers will have to wait over a year to reap the benefits of this minor design change, or perhaps a correction, from Apple. As per @URedditor, this decision would make the 2024 iPhones “instantly recognisable” as their Pro and Pro Max variants.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro series could feature larger screens

A recently surfaced rumour seemed to suggest that Apple is considering a screen size upgrade for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, bearing 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch panels. However, since it’s still too early in the day, it’s impossible to definitively say if Apple would make this call. Moreover, as MacRumors notes, the manufacturer’s plans could significantly change in the 16 months leading up to the 2024 iPhone flagship’s unveiling.

Apple iPhone 15 rumoured specifications

In the meantime, there’s plenty to be excited about the new iPhones. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are slated to receive features like Dynamic Island and a USB-C port. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could introduce a significantly beefed-up camera system, aided by a new periscope camera sensor.

As Apple developers and fans are likely aware by now, WWDC 2023 is just weeks away. Rumours have pointed to the arrival of a mixed-reality headset, the company’s first foray into the VR/AR space. We’ve also come across reports of the 15-inch MacBook Air model being unveiled at the dev-focused event.
