- Here’s everything you need to know.
‘Hey Siri’ command on iPhones is going away. The new command will be just ‘Siri.’ Siri will respond by calling it just Siri. Apple announced this change with the launch of iOS 17 at WWDC 2023.
Hey Siri has been a staple of Siri forever, and this change will be a significant one to happen to Siri since its inception.
The change has been implemented because using a single-word keyword is now easier. In the latest style guide, Apple mentioned that using two words to activate Siri in the old underlying engineering and training work was easier.
Apple also mentioned that changing the keyword from Hey Siri to Siri might seem simple on the surface. Still, it has made many background adjustments and optimized for the false touch in some scenarios.
It will take some time for users to get used to the new keyword in Siri. But in the long run, users will find it easier to use Siri as the word to call for it.
Amazon allows its Alexa voice assistant to be called upon by ‘Hey Alexa’ and ‘Alexa.’ Google, on the other hand, the assistant can be triggered using ‘Hey Google’ and ‘OK Google.’
The new keyword or trigger phrase will be available from September when iOS 17 launches for iPhones. It’ll be available on iPadOS and MacOS as well.
