Highlights
  • This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max’s higher price tag
  • Apple is supposedly looking to increase its market valuation with the expected price bump
  • The company is expected to offer an upgraded periscope camera sensor on the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year

With Apple’s WWDC 2023 finally concluded, all the focus now shifts to the rumoured September iPhone 15 unveiling. Complementing past reports about a potential price increase for this year’s iPhone lineup, analyst Dan Ives told CNBC that Apple is preparing for a $200 price increase for this year’s Pro and Pro Max models.

While this roughly translates to an increase of Rs 16,500 (approx), we suspect the flagships to go well beyond the $200 tag, especially when we factor in heavy custom duties levied on the flagship iPhones.

As Livemint points out, Ives has a decent track record of predicting iPhone pricing and was spot on with last year’s iPhone 14 series ahead of their launch. As for Apple’s reasoning for the price bump, the analyst says that the manufacturer wants to increase its market valuation with these upcoming price increases.

Apple’s valuation currently stands at $2.85 trillion. With these price bumps, the company could be positioned to reach $3.5 – $4 trillion within the next two years. Then there’s the likelihood of a large number of iPhone users upgrading their devices this year, according to the analyst. All these factors combined could lead to Apple shipping close to 235 to 240 million iPhone 15 models by the end of 2023.

Apple iPhone 15 rumoured specifications

As we count down to the launch of the next iPhone lineup, several leaks have surfaced already. We’ve learned that the base models in the new iPhone lineup, i.e. the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, will offer Dynamic Island by default, thus bridging the gap between their Pro siblings.

Furthermore, the Pro and Pro Max variants this year could feature different camera sensor arrangements. While the latter is expected to offer a significantly upgraded periscope unit among its three-sensor arrangement, the standard Pro may stick to the existing arrangement. Reports say this is mainly due to space constraints on the iPhone 15 Pro.
