As pointed out in the detailed explainer by AppleInsider, the new beta update also introduces the iOS 17 update screen for the first time, showing some expected changes compared to its iOS 16 counterpart. This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as new feature introductions are concerned.

Key Changes Onboard iOS 17 Beta 2

AirDrop is known for instant file sharing across all Apple devices, including the Mac, iPad, and of course, the iPhone. Beginning with iOS 17, Apple plans to upgrade the functionality to enable the transfer of photos or contact cards by bringing the top of two iPhones together, which displays a neat transfer animation from one iPhone to the other, as illustrated below by AppleInsider.

However, AI notes that this experience currently doesn’t function as it should for contact cards, though we expect this to be fixed in a subsequent iOS 17 beta update.

Existing Apple Music widgets are getting larger in the new iOS 17 beta, while the default iOS music app is also fixing a bug wherein enabling Crossfade would force close the Settings app. Furthermore, Apple is also offering a slider for Crossfade to control how long it runs.

Check In and StandBy also seeing updates

Another iOS 17 feature, Check In, is getting a minor tweak, with AI noting a slight change in wordings within the data preferences option in its settings pane.

Meanwhile, the Fitness app is gaining its own section within the Settings app for advanced controls on cellular data, Live Activities, and so on. The StandBy feature, which turns iPhones into a smart displays, is also getting an update, wherein users can mute notifications when it’s switched on.

Lastly, Haptic Touch is seemingly 2x faster than before with iOS 17 beta 2, with a new easy access option within Accessibility -> Touch -> Haptic Touch.

All of these features should be available out of the box on the iPhone 15 series in September this year. Devices like the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and other eligible models could get iOS 17 in the same month or by October.
