Highlights
  • The iPhone 15 series will see a couple of key improvements over its predecessors, with the Pro Max gaining a revamped rear camera system
  • This likely dummy unit details the sides and the bottom of the iPhone 15 Pro, but not the front panel
  • The standard iPhone 15 models are expected to pick up Dynamic Island and a potentially upgraded primary rear camera unit

A recent leak indicated that the Apple iPhone 15 would be unveiled on Wednesday, September 13. With a bulk of the hardware specs of the new iPhone 15 series already leaked in abundance, we’re now getting a chance to look at what appears to be an actual iPhone 15 Pro, though it could also likely be a dummy unit.

The image below was shared by Ice Universe on Twitter, revealing aspects like the USB-C port, a physical SIM tray, as well as the bottom and sides of the iPhone 15 Pro. In line with previous leaks and rumours, we can also catch a glimpse of the Action button, which has so far been limited to the Apple Watch Ultra.

This new Action button is expected to carry up to nine customisable functionalities, such as the ability to mute/unmute the iPhone or access any preset function via the Shortcuts app, etc. The new leak doesn’t show us the front of the iPhone, though we’re expecting to find thinner bezels than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro.

A significantly revamped camera for the iPhone 15 Pro Max

For the first time since the duo’s inception, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have differing camera hardware. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to pack a brand-new periscope telephoto camera, the standard Pro model would miss out. However, Apple is expected to bridge this gap with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max next year.

Meanwhile, the base iPhone 15 and its Plus sibling are expected to pick up Dynamic Island, a feature that debuted exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max in late 2022. This, coupled with the USB-C port and a revamped primary rear camera sensor, could be among the key upgrades on the cheaper iPhone 15 models in 2023.
