Tecno unveils its first rollable smartphone concept – Phantom Ultimate

Tecno has revealed its latest concept smartphone, the Phantom Ultimate. This rollable device builds on the success of the Phantom V foldable and marks a big step forward for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer.

According to the company, they have achieved this technological marvel with the help of “advanced engineering, including a custom-developed high torque powertrain, planetary reducer, and slider-crank mechanism.”

Design and Display

The display of the Phantom Ultimate operates seamlessly, allowing it to switch between a double-sided and a single 7.11-inch display effortlessly. It enhances user convenience and offers versatility in how the device is used.

The Phantom Ultimate features a 7.11-inch On-cell AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2296×1596 and 388 PPI. The display supports a wide range of colours and has a 1–120Hz refresh rate.

With a slim profile of just 9.93mm (excluding edge trim), it’s easy to use with one hand. The unique asymmetric book-roll design guides the unfolding direction to prevent accidental slips.

How does the Phantom Ultimate Display Work?

When closed, the Phantom Ultimate has a double-sided display that wraps around the device’s back, creating a secondary screen. When opened, it transforms into one large display. This design lets users easily access information and use the rear screen as a viewfinder for selfies.

Tecno Phantom Ultimate Launch and Availability 

Unfortunately, the Phantom Ultimate remains a concept for now, and there’s no clear indication of when it will hit the market.
