- Nintendo Switch 2 has been demoed behind closed doors
- Switch 2 brings huge performance gains, with visuals “comparable” to PS5 and Xbox Series X
Nintendo reportedly revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 to invited developers, showing off the prowess of the next-generation Switch.
According to Eurogamer, the developer presentations for Switch 2 took place behind closed doors, showing off the next-gen Switch running tech demos. This happened during the Gamescom event held back in August.
One Switch 2 demo was a “souped up” version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the launch title for the original Switch, which is designed to match the performance ceilings of the new Switch.
Also, VGC has reported that Nintendo showcased The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo running on the Switch 2. Interestingly, this same demo was used to showcase the performance of PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021. This demo was said to run using Nvidia DLSS AI upscaling technology and with advanced ray tracing enabled. The visuals are said to be comparable to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, while being super successful consoles, outselling both PS5 and Xbox Series, lag behind its competitors in terms of raw power. Being a portable console, we cannot expect it to feature such high performance from the handhelds. These new reports coming from the tech demo show promise that Nintendo is working on bringing more performance to the successor to Switch.
Nintendo is said to be gearing up to launch Nintendo Switch 2 by next year, but the company hasn’t said anything about the upcoming console publicly.
