The Apple iPhone 15 and its Pro siblings are just a day away from launch, and details are beginning to flow in regarding the entire quartet’s dimensions and weight, indicating a significant shift in the materials used, at least on the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As per exclusive information obtained by MacRumors, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will bear practically no upgrades in terms of dimensions or weight, largely resembling their predecessors. This is an aspect that has been rumoured quite often, with Apple expected to limit the design changes to the two Pro models this year.

The leak couldn’t conclusively reveal the dimensions of the iPhone 15 Plus, but MacRumors believes it could be mostly unchanged from last year’s variant. However, the iPhone 15 will supposedly feature largely the same width, length and thickness as the iPhone 14, barring some minimal changes.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be significantly lighter

The key takeaway from MacRumors’ detailed report is the reduced weight of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max compared to the iPhone 14 Pro duo from last year. Starting with the smaller of the two new Pro models, the publication’s sources claim it would be 8.25mm thick, oddly more than the iPhone 14 Pro’s 7.85mm.

Thanks to the new LIPO display technology, the bezels are smaller here than on the iPhone 14 Pro. This consequently brings about a reduced width of 70.6mm on the iPhone 15 Pro compared to the predecessor’s 71.5mm. The length of the phone is also slightly reduced at 146.6mm versus 147.5mm on the 2022 model.

Perhaps the biggest change here is the weight, with the reported use of corrosion-resistant Grade 5 Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) on the two iPhone 15 Pro models. All of this translates to the iPhone 15 Pro weighing only 188 grams, while the iPhone 14 Pro was a bulky 206 grams, a side effect of its stainless steel frame.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will also see a reduction in its dimensions and weight compared to its 2022 sibling. Weighing 240 grams, the iPhone 14 Pro Max wasn’t the lightest phone around. Apple’s use of Grade 5 Titanium will change this, with the device expected to weigh just 221 grams.

As with the smaller Pro model, this variant will also witness a bump in its overall thickness (8.25mm versus 7.85mm on the iPhone 14 Pro series) while slashing the length and width, respectively. So customers can expect the iPhone 15 Pro Max to measure 159.9mm long and 76.7mm, down from 160.7 x 77.6mm on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Apple Wonderlust event: How to Watch

Apple has made it easier to stream the event live as it happens across the world. While Apple device owners have multiple ways of catching the event, the company will also stream the event in its entirety through its official YouTube channel. We’re attaching the video below for your convenience.

The event kicks off at 10:30 PM (India Time) on September 12, 2023, with the iPhone 15 series and the Apple Watch Series 9 possibly being on the agenda. Despite the flurry of changes expected on the vanilla iPhone 15 and its Pro versions, the upcoming Apple Watch refresh will feature no major changes, barring the processor. The company is rumoured to launch the wearable in a Pink version to spice up the lineup, however.
