After the recent launch of Google’s very first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, it appears the tech giant is already in the early stages of developing its successor, as reported by 9to5Google.
9to5Google did an APK teardown of the Google Pixel Buds app, revealing a reference to a device code-named “Comet.” While details remain scarce, this mysterious device is believed to either follow in the footsteps of the Pixel Fold or potentially introduce a new foldable form factor, possibly a clamshell design.

Interestingly, the teardown also unveiled the codenames “Shiba” and “Husky,” which correspond to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, respectively. Given that “Comet” doesn’t align with Google’s conventional Pixel phone naming conventions, it strengthens the theory that it’s a foldable device. Moreover, a deeper analysis of the Pixel Buds app’s code revealed that “Comet” is grouped with the Pixel Fold and is explicitly referred to as a “fold” by the app.

While there is insufficient information to definitively conclude whether “Comet” signifies the Pixel Fold 2 or an entirely new addition to Google’s foldable phone lineup, the prospect of an evolving foldable series from Google has certainly upped our interest. Although the Google Pixel Fold did not make it to India, we hope that this new fold iteration will finally be announced in the Indian market.
