Netflix has bagged streaming rights for ‘The Fifth Wheel’, an upcoming comedy movie starring Kim Kardashian. This was after a week-long bidding war among theatrical distributors and streaming companies. Kardashian will also produce the movie along with writer Paula Pell who’s famous for Saturday Night Live.
The Fifth Wheel to stream on Netflix
The Fifth Wheel was one sought-after title as it saw five bids, according to a report by Deadline. The movie will be co-written by Janine Brito, Pell’s partner. The report adds that the comedy package took just days to come together. Soon after Pell and Brito came up with the idea, they pitched it to Kardashian, and the package was ready for sale. All of this happened right after the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike ended in September. It’s also one of the first major sales after the writer’s strike.
Kim Kardashian’s next major on-screen role
Kardashian is also said to be very heavily involved with the project, something that’s very Kim-like. As for the plot, there isn’t anything revealed as of yet but Kardashian will play the “fifth wheel” in the movie. It’s going to be a female-driven comedy with a female ensemble cast. The rest of the cast hasn’t been revealed yet.
This would be the second major on-screen role for Kardashian outside her reality shows Keeping Up With The Kardashians and The Kardashians. Earlier this year, we saw her in the latest edition of the anthology series American Horror Story: Delicate, where she plays Siobhan Walsh, a former actress turned publicist.
The Fifth Wheel will also be the first major screenwriting work for Brito, whose previous works include playing Pell’s spouse on Girls5Eva and writing NBC’s sitcom Mr. Mayor. Pell’s works also include writing and acting in the 2015 comedy movie Sisters starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and the Peacock series Girls5Eva.
Upcoming Netflix movies
There’s no other news on The Fifth Wheel release date, and who else will join Kim Kardashian in the cast. But it’s one of the few mid-budget Netflix movies coming up. The list includes A Family Affair, a romantic comedy starring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Joey King, and Lonely Planet, a romance movie starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. We’ll also see Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy debut as a director for Good Grief, a romantic comedy starring Levy,
Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel, and Luke Evans.
