According to reports, Amazon is in the fresh stage of curating a Spanish-language spinoff for its widely-watched superhero series The Boys, with the narrative unfolding in Mexico City. While specific plot intricacies remain undisclosed, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, recognized for his contribution to the DC film Blue Beetle, has already been linked to the project.

The Boys Spinoff

The spinoff, developed in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, is said to involve prominent executive producers, including Erik Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Diego Luna, and Gael Garcia Bernal. However, final negotiations with Luna and Bernal’s production banner, La Corriente del Golfo, are still in progress.

This prospective spinoff would signify the third installment within The Boys universe, following the original series and the recently premiered Gen V, set within a superhero college. Moreover, the ending of Gen V has sparked lots of theories about how The Boys Season 4 in 2024 might change things for good. Gen V, released in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video as a spin-off to The Boys, surprised viewers with its close ties to the main series. As Gen V Season 1 wrapped up, it became clear that the spin-off is closely linked to the ongoing stories of Billy Butcher, Hughie, Frenchie, and Mother’s Milk. Beyond The Boys, Amazon is actively exploring indigenous language productions, as evidenced by its intentions to extend the Citadel franchise to various global locales.

Since its inaugural season in 2019, The Boys has consistently delivered commendable streaming metrics and garnered eight Emmy nominations, including recognition for Best Drama Series in 2021, solidifying its standing as one of Amazon’s most widely loved original productions.

The Boys Spinoff Plotline

The Boys premiered its first season of eight episodes on July 26, 2019. The second season premiered on September 4, 2020, with the third season following on June 3, 2022. Also, in June 2022, the series was renewed for a fourth season, which is scheduled to be released in 2024.

The Boys unfolds in a world where superpowered individuals, known as supes, work for Vought International, a company that markets them as heroes. Despite their heroic image, most supes are revealed to be selfish. The narrative centers on two factions: the Boys, a group opposing Vought’s corrupt superheroes, led by the strong but angry Billy Butcher, and the Seven, Vought’s premier superhero team led by Homelander. The story involves conflicts between these groups, with new members like Hughie Campbell and Annie Starlight January adding complexity to their dynamics. Other Seven members include Queen Maeve, A-Train, Deep, Black Noir, and Stormfront, while the Boys also feature Mother’s M.M. Milk, Kimiko, and Frenchie.
