  • WhatsApp is working on animated emojis
  • It has been spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp desktop
  • It will be available soon on Android and iOS WhatsApp apps

WhatsApp is caught testing animated emojis in beta versions, and it will be available soon for all users.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing animated emojis in collaboration with Lottie Library, which provides free-to-use animated images and icons for websites.

This new feature has been spotted on the WhatsApp Desktop Beta version, and we can expect it to be available in Android and iOS versions soon.

Take a look at how the animated emoji would work on WhatsApp:

We can see that it looks similar to that of animated stickers. But the animated versions of the emojis will be sent by default when the animated versions of certain emojis are available. This is in line with the way WhatsApp would send a beating heart when sending the heart emoji on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp users can send animated emojis already using various third-party animated sticker packs available in Play Store. This animated stickers feature from WhatsApp brings similar features natively. You don’t need to look for third-party stickers to emulate the animated emojis feature that Telegram has had for years.

WABetaInfo notes that this feature will be available soon for stable users of WhatsApp Desktop and will be available for Android and iOS apps of WhatsApp soon. Currently, there’s no word on when exactly this feature will land on the mobile apps of WhatsApp.
