Highlights

  • Telegram Stories is here
  • It is only available for Telegram Premium users

After last month’s announcement, Telegram Stories is now rolling out to select users. But there’s a catch! Only Telegram Premium users can post stories. But all users can view the stories. So you need to be a Telegram Premium user to try out Telegram Stories and be updated to the latest version of Telegram.

Telegram Pavel Durov said this last month about the launch of Telegram Stories in his channel, “For years, our users have been asking us to implement Stories in Telegram. More than half of all feature requests that we receive are related to Stories. Initially, we were against this since Stories are already everywhere. However, Telegram wouldn’t be Telegram if we didn’t listen to our users and didn’t innovate on existing formats.”

Telegram Stories – Features

Here are the features detailed by Telegram for Telegram Stories:

  • Privacy – Users will be able to define the viewers of each story with granular precision. Users can choose to have the stories viewable by everyone, their contacts, selected contacts, or even a single person.
  • Compact UI – Stories are shown at the top of the chats in Telegram, not taking up much space elsewhere.
  • Flexibility – Users can hide stories posted by contacts by moving them to the Hidden list.
  • Captions – Users can add captions to their stories to add context to the story or add links. Users will also be able to tag other Telegram users in stories.
  • Dual camera support – Users can use both cameras to post stories, much like the BeReal app.
  • Optional Ephemerality – Users can choose when a story expires – 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours. Users can also choose a story to be shown on their profile page permanently as well, like Instagram highlights.
