Made under the banners of Walt Disney Pictures and Pastel Productions and to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. provide the voices for the younger versions of Mufasa and Scar, respectively. Joining them are Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani, reprising their voice character roles from the 2019 film. At the D23 Expo in September 2022, the movie’s title—Mufasa: The Lion King—was unveiled. Amidst the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the film’s production slowed in July. Mufasa The Lion King was supposed to be released theatrically on July 5, 2024. However, the release is postponed. The film was delayed by the unprecedented 118-day SAG-AFTRA strike (which ended recently). Mufasa The Lion King will arrive in cinemas on December 20, 2024. Given the production banner and that The Lion King (1994 and 2019) is available on Disney+, Mufasa The Lion King will be on the platform digitally.
